One on the Run

When I came home from my engagement shoot Saturday and told my husband about the incredible meeting that I had at the beach Saturday morning, he said: "This stuff always happens to you!" He is right. I have a knack for finding myself at the right place at the right time when something incredible is happening. As I got out of my car at the Ocean Beach pier to finish up Erin & Robb's engagement photos, a lady who had obviously noticed me because of my camera equipment came running up to me and said: "See that lady over there? She is leaving for Florida this morning!" Honestly, my initial thought was: Geez lady, a lot of people are leaving for Florida today. Nice that your friend gets to go on vacation! And just as I finished that thought and she began to walk away, she said: "She's RUNNING!" Suddenly I realized I was about to meet an exceptional person. I walked up to this lady and introduced myself and asked her to tell me about her run. In a nutshell, Helene Neville is a nurse that survived cancer and 3 brain surgeries! She was leaving at that very moment on her way to Jacksonville, FL. and anticipates being there in 100 days, which will be just before her 50th birthday! This woman was amazing and inspiring! She told us about her training for this run and the anticipation of the journey that she was about to begin. I am so thankful to have been there to meet Helene and take a few photos of her as she started her journey. It's a moment that I'll never forget. I'll be tracking her progress @ http://oneontherun.com. There's actually a short video there of her starting off as I took these shots. All my best to you Helene! We'll be following you!!

San Diego Indian Wedding

Today is day 5 of the longest and most interesting wedding I've ever photographed. The couple is amazing, the families are wonderful. I've learned so much this week about Indian weddings and the Sikh religion. It's been an incredible week!!

In need of a vet...

I’m writing about my niece Aimee, her family, & family pet, Riley. Aimee & her husband Peter adopted Riley, a dog from the shelter here in San Diego about a year ago, shortly after they moved here. Peter is in the Navy and stationed here. They adopted Riley not only because they love dogs and animals, but because they thought that she would make a terrific playmate for their son, Austin, who is 12 years old. Austin is blind and is developmentally challenged. Riley has turned in to so much more for their small family, especially since the arrival of their new son, George, who is now 7 months old. Recently, Riley, who is the most patient and sweet dog, tore her patella and is in need of surgery that will cost Aimee and Peter almost $3000.00. Unfortunately, even with his full time navy job and the 4 nights a week that Peter works at Sears; they are unable to afford the surgery that Riley needs. It’s not that they are not willing to pay for this, it’s just that they don’t have the cash and can’t get the financing at this time as they currently have too many bills. They are afraid that the best choice that they could make for Riley would be to give her up so that she can get the care that she needs. I would hate to see this happen as Riley has been such an important part of their family and such an invaluable playmate for Austin. If anyone knows of a vet that could help my niece and her family keep their family pet, please call me! Thanks!! Teri 619-929-1561

CAKE!

A few weeks ago I helped host a baby shower for my friend, Jenny. One of Jenny's requests was a cake from CAKE. So, we sent over a photo of some items from the baby's room and asked them to come up with a cake to match. As usual, the ladies at CAKE delivered above and beyond expectations! One cake was chocolate, the other cheesecake and it truly is some of the best cake I've ever had in my life. I don't have to go on and on about how adorable the cake was...as you can see for yourself in the photos. Cake is located in San Diego on Reynard Way and can be reached at 619-295-CAKE (2253)

Baker Family Photos

The Baker Family had a perfect San Diego morning for their photo shoot at the beach. This was a lot of fun and a challenge all at the same time. You see, little Christopher is 4 years old and is very opinionated when it comes to having his photo taken. He actually likes to make the rules. He doesn't like silly games or funny faces that usually work for me when I'm trying to get a minature person to play along. Instead, he was skilled at the art of negotiation. I never before have offered to pay a child to smile for me. But once the first five cents was on the table, he had my number. By the end of the shoot, little Mr. had earned himself 75 cents. Almost enough for an ice cream cone! I'm glad that his little sister wasn't quite old enough to understand, and still offered her sweet smiles for free!

A great post about recycling

As a huge supporter of going green, recycling, saving our oceans, and just plain being less wasteful, I loved Liz Beck's blog post about unique ways to recycle. Besides supporting the green cause, Liz is a talented event planner with a huge heart and fun sense of humor. Check out the recycling post here and Liz Beck Events here!

Dawn's Maternity Photos

I had so much fun taking Dawn's maternity photos! She's just one of those people that's a lot of fun to be around. She was such a good sport to hike down to the beach and bare her belly without worrying about onlookers or the cool morning breeze. It was worth it! It was the perfect location for the natural soft look she was hoping for. The photos were a surprise gift for her husband, Alex. Dawn also ordered an album from the shoot that she plans to give to baby Isabelle when she turns 13. What a great idea! I loved it! Congratulations Dawn and Alex. We can't wait to meet that baby girl!
